Speech at Springwood

Speaking.jpg

FDR gives a speech in front of his Hyde Park home.

Depending on when in 1931 this photo was taken, FDR is either still campaigning for President or has already won the position. Even after moving into the Oval Office, FDR considered Springwood his "Summer White House" and used it for political meetings. After contracting polio, FDR outfitted Springwood to accommodate his new immobility. He enjoyed returning here to escape the constant stress of pretending that he was not disabled.
