Teenage FDR

FDR and Sara.jpg

Teenage FDR sits on the Springwood porch with his mother.

Often portrayed as a controlling figure, Sara Roosevelt was really just a mother who adored her son. Half her husband's age, she needed to take the largest role in raising FDR. Although he spent his teenage years at Groton, a boarding school in Massachusetts, FDR always enjoyed returning to Springwood where he could spend time with his mother.
