Young FDR

FDR on Pony.jpg

Seven-year-old FDR rides a pony on his Hyde Park estate.

On January 30, 1882, Sara Delano Roosevelt gave birth to FDR. But the delivery took such a toll on her health that doctors forbade her from having any more children. As a result, Sara and James doted on their only child, giving him everything he could ever want. FDR learned to sail on the Hudson, adventured through the woods on the estate, and rode many horses, as depicted by this photo.
